wet rooms ...

A wet room is a great way of getting the most from a small space without it feeling overcrowded. However, wet rooms come with design considerations that can sometimes prohibit their installation.

If the floor is solid (concrete or similar) then there will be no facility for the drainage without extensive modification. With a conventional joist-and-floorboard floor, the structure may not be sufficiently rigid to accommodate a wet room floor. Usually, in the latter case, it is possible to rebuild the underlying floor to support the demands of the wet room. Given that wet rooms are generally quite small, this modification is not a major expense.

It is essential to use a good quality thermostatic mixer. There are cheap solutions on the market, but 'cheap' is what they are. They tend to age quite quickly. High quality taps and mixers - whether in chrome, nickel or stainless steel - feel good, look great and last a lifetime.

wet room details ...

We really like wet rooms. They look good, they won’t go out of fashion and they make great use of space without creating a cramped feeling. However, great care must be taken with their installation to ensure they are leak-free now and in 10 or 20 years' time. We prefer to work with Wetroom Innovations Limited, a company which - as the name suggests - specialises in the field. They have a range of solutions to suit all situations.

The waste pipe from the wet room drain is almost always 40 mm plastic pipe (solvent weld, not 'push fit'). This has to be routed in such a way that it has minimal joints and angles and gives a minimum fall over its length of 18 mm per metre. You must also ensure that the connection to the waste stack or drain complies with Building Regulations.
